Paris attacked by Joan of Arc: 8 September 1429 - This Day in History
On this day in 1429, French heroine Joan of Arc, a peasant girl who believed she was acting under divine guidance, attempted to oust the duke of Burgundy and take Paris for the newly crowned King Charles VII.

Richard I (the Lion-Heart), born this day in 1157, was known for his knightly manner and prowess in the Third Crusade; though he was a popular king and was revered as a hero, scholars would later view him less kindly.
